Following a series of appointments teaching English and Mathematics in Basilian High Schools, Fr. Lawrence “Larry” James, Faye (1915 - 2008, ordained 1950) earned a Ph.D. in counselling after defending his thesis, “The Role of Jungian Psychology in the Training of Counselors.” (1972). In a brief autobiography he wrote: “From the time of my first vows, I never looked back… To the Basilian Fathers I will be eternally grateful for allowing me to be one of their confreres.”

After more than 16 years of faithful leadership, Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB’s resignation has been accepted by Pope Francis. We give thanks for his dedicated service to the @archvancouver and the Church. May God bless him in this next chapter.

We also welcome Archbishop Richard W. Smith, appointed as the 12th Archbishop of Vancouver. He will be installed as the 12th Archbishop of Vancouver later this year. Archbishop Miller will continue to serve as Apostolic Administrator in the meantime.

Fr. Peter Swan, (1919 – 2018, ordained 1943) spent the greater part of his career working to advance #Catholic higher #education, chiefly through administrative positions in #Basilian institutions. From 1978 to 1984 Fr. Swan was President and Vice-Chancellor of @ustmikes and helped negotiate federation between the Toronto School of Theology and the University of Toronto and later negotiated a new Memorandum of Agreement between the University of Toronto and its federated universities.

Teaching was Fr. Ron Pazik’s (1926 - 2009, ordained 1954) passion, particularly teaching Spanish. Having taught more than 30 years at Assumption University and at the University of Windsor, his students recognized his talents and his devotion to them, and in 1986 he received the citation for “Outstanding Contribution to University Teaching” from the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations.

Fr. Charles Wallace Leland CSB (1928-2005, ordained 1959) devoted his entire Basilian life to scholarship, teaching, and counselling at the University of St. Michael's CollegeToronto. His courses were largely on the English Renaissance and modern Norwegian literature. A pianist from early age, he frequented concerts in Toronto and Oslo and became an accomplished flautist, often playing his flute with Father Owen Lee at the piano.

Father Henry Clemens’s CSB (1914 – 2002, ordained 1941) name is invariably linked to @dcc1928 where he taught English and religion a total of 45 years, in five different periods (1939–40, 1942–7, 1948–53, 1956–65, 1968–92). Active in moderating school clubs, directing drama and musical productions, and in working with parents’ organizations, it’s estimated that Fr. Clemens taught over ten thousand ‘Men of Catholic Central’.
